"Levons-nous et construisons" : le modèle créatif de Néhémie ("Let's stand up and build!" English version below)

English version

The more I read about the prophet Nehemiah, the more the creative person I’m trying to be finds him truly remarkable! A genuine ‘coach’ for builders, entrepreneurs and creative people. Anyone seeking to cultivate a builder’s mindset can take him as a guide, since he himself was guided by God. He speaks repeatedly of the ‘benevolent hand of God’ (Neh 2:8) that was upon him. This benevolent hand is also the hand of the creative person.

What a mindset, and what agile, forward-thinking intelligence! Let’s see him in action in chapter 2.
Nehemiah is quite clear: he walks along, inspects and explores the walls that are to be rebuilt on his own, in secret, at night, without telling anyone. His caution and ability to analyse the situation keep him safe and free. What creative person has not been held back at the start of a project by the comments of those to whom they spoke of it? The mindset of a builder is not a solitary one, but it is, in the first instance, as discreet as it is determined. Saint Joseph, for example, was the most discreet of builders, and the most powerful, working directly to protect the Saviour during his childhood. God has therefore maintained the same strategy throughout the centuries. This is a useful lesson for us, who are all too quick to reveal our actions, our plans and our activities. Yet Nehemiah would go on to spark a great and highly visible surge of enthusiasm, based on this discreet beginning.

Come (Stand up), and let us rebuild

Then I said to them, “You see the bad situation that we are in—how Jerusalem is desolate and lies in ruins and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, and let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, so that we will no longer be a disgrace.”

Rise!

The hebraic version says : "Stand", "Stand up", not only come : "quwm"  (6965 in strongs)
This “Let us rise” echoes the “rise and walk” spoken by Jesus when he healed the paralysed man. And, deep down, it is the same impulse! This impulse comes from the help of the Holy Spirit, and we recognise it in that sense of vitality and strength in the face of potential obstacles. What matters most is the vision of building, of what needs to be built and done. The energy then comes from within! To Saint Joseph, the angel also said: “Arise, take the child and his mother, for Herod is seeking to kill him”. Joseph knows that he is working towards the rebuilding of Jerusalem, just like Nehemiah, whom he must surely have meditated upon: building and constructing—this could only have pleased Joseph of Nazareth!
Nehemiah then responds proudly to the enemies of the Jewish people who insult them and try to discourage them. (Neh 2:20)

I answered them, “The God of heaven [has appointed us for His purpose and] will give us success; therefore we His servants will arise and build, but you have no portion, right, or memorial in Jerusalem.”

Nehemiah and Joseph: Same struggle! And the same goes for us too. If we serve God, we will be mocked, but God’s servants are people who stand up and build! That is precisely how we recognise them.
So, be creative, and take heart! Let us rise and build!
